The Learning Café is a transformative culinary training program that empowers youth and young adults facing significant life challenges such as housing insecurity, mental health barriers, trauma, and unemployment by paying them to learn real-world skills while feeding others in need.
Through meaningful, hands-on education in cooking, hospitality, time management, and teamwork, participants gain confidence, certification, and community.
The Kitchen is a launchpad.
Each 16-week cohort trains 4 - 6 individuals at a cost of approximately $25,000. During this time, participants earn their Food Handlers Certification, learn job and life skills, contribute to school lunch programs, cater events, and support food-insecure individuals.
They leave with more than a resumé.
They leave with a purpose. A path. A future.
Four to Six to new people every cohort rebuild their lives, and they begin contributing to the local economy. We work through partnerships to support participants in finding housing, completing education, and transitioning into employment.
We know this model can become self-sustaining, but we need your help now to continue. Grants alone are not enough. This is community in action. It’s dignity through purpose. It’s creating economic catalysts out of individuals once written off as economic burdens.
